Peter Quinton: Currambene Creek Falls, The Falls Celebration: countdown 25 These falls have fallen off the map. Tourist operators don't want you to wander here - there are no shops, cafes, bed-sits or fancy dining. Slowly the country is being reshaped by faceless people to serve their own selfish interests. I often find Currambene and her sister waterfall (Parma) asleep together in the heat. On the day of this photograph, the Currambene was up getting coffee and cream while Parma had her eyes shut tight. These two creeks dance in the one large waterhole, close to the Pacific Ocean. Different catchments and topography mean that the creeks flow at different rates. When both falls are in operation, complex standing wave patterns form on the waterhole surface. The drop from the edge is a little more than meets the eye, and is not the sort of place to go wandering at night or day without a second plan.
